Fulgur Ventures announced its investment in Breez, the non-custodial Lightning client and SDK powering seamless bitcoin payments, podcast streaming, and merchant integrations inside any app.
Today we are announcing our investment in Breez, one of the most technically serious teams building on the Lightning Network. Founded in 2018 in Tel Aviv by Roy Sheinfeld, Roei Erez, and Yaacov Akiba Slama, Breez ships a non-custodial Lightning client that gives end users full control of their keys while delivering the kind of frictionless payments experience most people associate with custodial wallets.
Beyond its consumer app, Breez has invested heavily in an SDK that lets any developer drop bitcoin payments, podcast streaming sats, and merchant flows into their own product without becoming a Lightning expert. That positioning, Bitcoin in every app, is precisely the leverage point we look for: tooling that pushes Lightning out of standalone wallets and into the everyday surfaces where users already spend their time.
This fits the Fulgur thesis on multiple levels. Non-custodial design preserves the property rights that make Bitcoin special. The SDK approach acknowledges that adoption will be won at the developer layer, not just the consumer layer. And first-class support for Value4Value podcasting, streaming sats per minute as you listen, demonstrates the kind of native internet money use case that simply is not possible on legacy rails.
The vision is large but coherent: a world where any application that needs to move value uses Lightning the way it currently uses HTTPS, with Breez handling the hard parts. We have been partners with the team since 2019 and continue to be impressed by their depth, discipline, and refusal to compromise on user sovereignty. We are proud to keep backing them.
