Fulgur Ventures is partnering with Ark Labs, the team building Arkade, a programmable execution layer based on the Ark protocol. The investment backs a Bitcoin Layer-2 designed for scalable, low-cost, self-custodial payments and applications native to Bitcoin.
Fulgur Ventures partners with Ark Labs to support the development of Arkade, a programmable execution layer for Bitcoin based on the Ark protocol. Founded in 2024 by Marco Argentieri and Simone Giacomelli and headquartered in Estonia, Ark Labs is engineering an off-chain virtual UTXO model that compresses interactivity, reduces fees, and preserves Bitcoin's self-custodial guarantees for everyday users and developers building on top.
Ark removes a long-standing trade-off in Bitcoin scaling. Lightning is fast but liquidity-heavy and operationally complex; on-chain transactions are simple but expensive at scale. Arkade introduces a shared-UTXO design where users transact through an Ark Service Provider without inbound liquidity, without channel management, and without surrendering custody. The result is a smoother path to receive, hold, and program bitcoin from a mobile-grade wallet.
This investment fits squarely within Fulgur's thesis that Bitcoin needs an open, credibly neutral execution environment to host the next wave of financial applications. Programmable money is not a feature to be retrofitted; it is the substrate on which payments, lending, and identity will be built. Ark Labs sits at the layer where that substrate becomes usable, with covenants and second-layer logic anchored to Bitcoin's base settlement.
We see Arkade as one of the connective layers that lets builders ship consumer-grade Bitcoin products without compromising on principles. From everyday remittances to merchant payments to embedded finance, the demand surface is enormous, and the team's protocol-level depth, open-source orientation, and shipping discipline put them in a strong position to serve it. We are excited to back Marco, Simone, and the Ark Labs team as they bring programmable Bitcoin to production.
